Mercado Bitcoin suspends transfers after a security incident
Brazilian exchange Mercado Bitcoin said it contained a security incident on 2 November and temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals. It said customers suffered no financial loss and no customer data leaked; those remain the company’s assurances.
Independent reporting puts the incident alongside a security-firm alert about more than $40 million in suspicious transfers. That estimate is not a confirmed exchange loss figure. Different wallet valuations circulating after an attack can include changing token prices and assets whose ownership is still being investigated, so this edition does not present a final bill.
The practical issue for customers is access. The exchange’s initial statement described the transfer suspension as precautionary while it investigated and traced assets. We have not verified a subsequent all-clear or a firm restoration time. A statement that losses are covered and a working withdrawal service are separate things to check.
Use the exchange’s own app and official updates for service changes. Anyone claiming that a wallet connection, seed phrase or advance payment is needed to release funds is not part of the process described in the statement.
Reassuring words are welcome. A withdrawal that arrives is considerably more reassuring.
