THORChain refunds money that never arrived. The swaps have to wait.

THORChain says an Ethereum block reorganisation on 31 October caused a 10 ETH refund against a deposit its vault never received. The user returned the excess funds, restoring vault solvency. Its 1 November explanation says multiple swap routes remain halted while developers work on fixes.
The deposit appeared in a block that Ethereum subsequently dropped. THORChain had already credited it; a re-check failed to remove it before finalisation. When the swap missed its price limit, the refund process paid against that missing deposit. The real deposit was refunded as well. This is the team's explanation of an accounting mismatch across two systems, rather than evidence that Ethereum itself lost the funds.
The automatic solvency checker stopped ETH swaps, followed by node intervention to halt further signing and other chains. THORChain's statement listed Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana among ten halted networks, with Avalanche, Base, XRP Ledger and native RUNE activity continuing. That is a dated status report, not a guarantee that every route remains in the same state when a reader opens an app.
Returning 10 ETH closes the immediate shortfall; fixing a repeatable refund flaw is a separate job. The team says nodes will reopen chains when judged safe. Anyone planning a cross-chain swap should check the relevant route's current status rather than assume that restored solvency means normal service has resumed.
The refund department has achieved the impossible: money back before the money arrived. I shall be checking the empty box before promoting the machine.
