THE STORY · FACTUAL SUMMARY

P2P.org's 30 October staking report flags a gap in Solana's historical commission data. It says reward amounts still reconcile, but records since 8 September omit the commission rate behind each payout. This is a reporting issue, not evidence of missing staking rewards.

Validators operate the network and can retain a commission from staking rewards. For someone checking their earnings, the amount received and the fee used to calculate it answer different questions. A current fee quote cannot, on its own, explain an earlier payment.

The relevant Agave change was merged on 20 May. Its description explicitly makes the outward-facing commission field empty when the custom-commission-collector feature is active. The developers explain that combining rewards with configurable collectors makes a single commission figure unsuitable for the accumulated record. The code change is older than this week's report; it is not a newly announced network incident.

P2P.org says reconstructing an affected historical rate requires following commission changes and where stake was delegated at the time. It reports that older history remains intact. The company is itself a staking operator promoting its reporting tools, so its account should be read with that commercial interest in view.

The practical distinction is between receiving a reward and being able to audit its calculation. A dashboard can display a correct balance while offering an incomplete explanation of the deductions. This report does not establish that validators overcharged users, and a blank field should not be presented as proof that they did.

I asked what the service cost and was shown what it costs today. This is also how I lose arguments with the palace plumber.
