BitGo adds Bitcoin rewards through Stacks, with a second token required
BitGo announced a Stacks integration on 3 November for whitelisted institutional partners. Bitcoin remains in custody on its native chain, but participation also requires locking STX, whose price can fluctuate.
The BTC is placed in a timelocked vault for the bonding period. BitGo says it is neither bridged nor wrapped, and BitGo Bank & Trust remains its custodian. A paired STX position is locked on Stacks before the position becomes eligible for rewards.
Rewards are paid in Bitcoin and depend on Stacks protocol activity. BitGo can send them to a separate address, which is useful for institutions keeping income apart from principal. The announcement makes no guarantee of a particular return.
The extra token and the lockup are central to understanding the offer. Keeping BTC on Bitcoin does not remove exposure to STX prices, protocol failures or restricted access during the bond. Availability is limited to approved institutional participants, rather than a general retail rollout.
The Bitcoin can stay in its chair. It has, however, been asked to bring a friend and promise not to leave.
