Tether's reserve cushion nearly doubles. The profit number needs its own label.

Tether's 30 October release says its reserve buffer reached $7.95 billion at 30 September, up from $4.1 billion at the end of June. Its point-in-time report lists $191.45 billion of assets against $183.50 billion of liabilities. Tether separately says it made $1.5 billion in third-quarter net operating profit.
The distinction between those figures matters. BDO's assurance opinion concerns the Financial Figures and Reserves Report at 23:59 UTC on 30 September. It does not cover activity before or after that instant, and the accompanying notes are outside the assurance conclusion. The report is a reserve attestation, not a full set of financial statements.
Tether's release attributes most income to US Treasury bills and reverse-repurchase agreements. It reports $132.4 billion in direct and indirect Treasury-bill exposure and says USDT issuance remained broadly stable at about $184 billion through the first three quarters of 2026.
The $1.5 billion quarterly net operating profit is Tether's measure in its announcement; it is not the figure BDO was engaged to attest. Readers assessing USDT should therefore keep three questions separate: the assets and liabilities reported at the snapshot time, the scope of the external assurance, and the company's own performance claims.
Nearly eight billion dollars of cushion. I tested it with one royal bounce; the accounting labels remained more important than the upholstery.
